Tools and Materials Needed

Before the class, please make sure you have your supplies ready. The list below includes my preferred choices, but if you already have your own favorites, feel free to use them instead!

  • Broad-edged nibs & penholders: We will use a medium-sized nib (3–4mm) for most of the class, but having additional sizes on hand is always helpful. Recommendations: Brause Bandzug, Leonardt TAPE, or Speedball C-series.
  • Pilot Parallel Pen: 3.8 mm (the one with the green cap).
  • Ink or Paint: Black gouache or any non-waterproof ink.
  • Paper for drills: A3 paper pads. Make sure the paper isn't too heavy so you can clearly see the guidelines through it. Recommendations: Fabriano Schizzi, Daler Rowney Fine Grain, Canson Marker, or similar.
  • Brush: An old or inexpensive brush for loading the nib with ink.
  • Tools & Accessories: A 2B pencil, a ruler, an eraser, a rag, and a few small containers for your water and paint.
